Weight loss success stories: Jody Wassmer

If you’re struggling to lose weight and you need some inspiration, look no further than what I sincerely

believe is one of the most encouraging weight loss success stories that I’ve read thus far. I say this because, this particular weight loss story is a testament to one of my personal beliefs, which is “there’s nothing more powerful than a made-up mind.”

The weight loss journey of Jody Wassmer is positive proof that if you make a personal committment to change your life for the better, take small but decisive actions towards improving your life, you can achieve “extraordinary results” that could literally save your life.

In his own words, Jody describes his weight loss experience…

Hi, I’m not an example of a major weight loss but I am an example of someone who took control of their own diet to keep from being diagnosed with diabetes.

I’m 43, male and have pretty much eaten and drank whatever I pleased throughout my life. It’s pretty safe

to say that I was addicted to Mountain Dew and sweet tea as well.

In late 2008, after a routine blood test my physician referred me to an endocrinologist who told me I was one confirming blood test away from being diagnosed diabetic. My blood test had shown a sugar level of more than 125 and my triglyceride levels were very high. He told me to return the next morning for another blood test and that I would likely be diagnosed diabetic after that.

Instead, I told him to give me five days before taking the second blood test. He reluctantly agreed; I immediately went home and told my wife that my life was changing that minute. Over the next five days, I worked out at least once per day and cut out all sugar, fat and carbs from my diet. I lost eight pounds and my blood sugar was way below the “diabetes line” on my next blood test. My triglyceride, cholesterol and blood pressure levels dropped a great deal as well.

During the past year, I’ve focused on keeping that weight off—I’ve lost a total of 28 pounds, down to 182 lbs.—by eating right and exercising. It isn’t easy but I’ve found that sweets and cheeseburgers really don’t appeal to me anymore. Any time I have a craving for something I shouldn’t have, I think of how far I’ve come and how “falling off the wagon” would be a huge personal defeat.

My diet consists primarily of chicken and turkey, salads and lots of Subway sandwiches on wheat. No McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches. I usually have oatmeal or dry frozen waffles for breakfast. I also eat a lot of nachos with ground turkey instead of beef.

I’m not perfect and occasionally cheat but not often. My wife is very proud of me; she didn’t think I could do it. Truthfully, I’m proud of myself too.

Don’t you feel encouraged after reading Jody’s story? If nothing else, if you’re struggling to lose weight, what you should take away from Jody’s weight loss story is that “small changes” in your lifestyle can make a BIG difference. In the case of Jody, adjusting his eating habits slightly literally saved him from a lifetime of being a diabetic.

Jody, you have every right to be proud of weight loss accomplishment. Thank you for sharing, and best of luck going forward.
